Emergency Variceal Band Ligation in Ghaziabad

Variceal Band Ligation is a life-saving endoscopic treatment performed for esophageal varices, which are enlarged veins in the food pipe caused by chronic liver disease (cirrhosis). During the procedure, patients are sedated. An endoscope fitted with a special banding device is inserted through the mouth. Dr. Kak identifies swollen veins and places small rubber bands around them to cut off blood flow.

The ligation takes 10–15 minutes and is usually a day-care treatment, though emergency cases may need hospitalization. Patients follow a soft diet for 48 hours and take prescribed medications to reduce portal pressure.

Regular follow-up endoscopies are essential because new varices may form. The procedure greatly reduces risk of future bleeding.
